William Hoiles

Director of Artificial Intelligence - Katerra

Dr. William Hoiles is the Director of Artificial Intelligence at Katerra. William leads a team of senior data scientists and machine learning researchers delivering innovative AI solutions to the unique challenges faced by the construction sector. William’s research has pioneered developments in density forecasting, simulation optimization, mathematical economics, and electro-diffusive dynamics. He has authored many papers in top tier journals including ICML and NeurIPS. Additionally, he is the author of the book Dynamics of Engineered Artificial Membranes and Biosensors published by Cambridge University Press in 2018. From 2015 to 2018 William held two principal researcher positions in data science at the University of California, Los Angeles and the University of British Columbia. Furthermore, he was the instructor of statistical signal processing—a class geared towards teaching probabilistic inference to undergraduate/graduate engineering students. Prior to 2015 William was involved in the design of the first-ever all-electric race car to compete in North America’s largest hill climb challenge, and also lead the design of automated regolith excavators for NASA.
