John Smits, AIA has over 35 years’ experience in the architecture and construction industry, as Principal of an A/E office to directing development projects in NYC. He has developed methodologies for applying 3D laser scan data specifically to the architecture, engineering and construction professions, focusing on its use in both documentation and forensic study of buildings. He is a partner with an A/E firm in the New York metro area, and Vice President AEC/3D Scanning Division of East Coast Metrology, a scanning services company focusing on 3D technologies and testing.
He has been involved with numerous scanning projects throughout the northeast; landmark buildings such as the Cooper Hewitt Museum, Empire State Building, and Rockefeller Center, preparing BIM models, construction as-builts, even documenting archaeological excavations at the site of the World Trade Center.
