Incorporating BIM into Life Cycle Management
There has been a lot of advancement when it comes to adopting new technologies onsite. The AEC industry is embracing new modes of information sharing and collaboration. Some companies are adapting quickly whereas others are finding it difficult to make the jump. This growing divide makes right now an important time for construction professionals to start looking into emerging trends in technology and how these trends can help the industry move forward. Today’s architect, engineer and construction manager must be able to deal with rapid pace of technological change, an interconnected world and complex problems that require multidisciplinary solutions. This presentation will discuss an assessment of the industry’s present state and then focus on emerging trends that will impact the industry. Some of the trends that will be discussed include integrating BIM with Facility Management, use of mobile technologies onsite to capture relevant project data, rapid emergence of 3D scanning, drones, and augmented reality (wearable technologies) and the changing nature of how we consume and analyze information to better manage risks while maximizing value and performance through intelligent use of data. The presentation will also focus on a case study of Columbia University and how the University has implemented BIM and integrated it within its different departments of Asset management, Real Estate and Space Planning Management. The Manhattanville program is a 17-acre site that Columbia University is developing into 6.8 million square feet of space for teaching, research, underground parking, and support services. It features new state-of-the-art research facility and academic buildings, in addition to cultural, recreational, and commercial space. The presentation will describe the implementation of the University’s strategic vision of incorporating Building Information Modeling into its processes and operations and to provide the University with a sustainable O&M and lifecycle cost savings.
From Design Coordination to Building Turn-over: BIM 360 Build Helps Connect the Dots

We’ll look at connecting MEP coordinated models to BIM 360 Build, tracking assets & utilizing checklists and tasks to perform QA/QC, round-trip it back to Navisworks for status visualization and then set up for implementation into facilities management services such as BIM 360 Ops.
Mobile Technology: It’s Driving the Transformation to Modern Facility Management
Research shows that facilities teams spend, on average, nearly one hour per day searching for information they need to complete work orders.
