BIMStorm: Buildings of Steel, Concrete AND Data
The process of putting together a building involves vast amounts of resources, planning, and coordination among an army of stakeholders. The concrete is poured the steel frame is erected as each piece of the building is assembled piece by piece. Complex electrical and mechanical systems are connected. Expensive finishes are reviewed, selected, and installed. In every step of the process, there are volumes of information being documented that captures the story or “Owner’s Manual” for the building. Unfortunately, this information is typically delivered to the Owner like a series of books – all on paper. Stop thinking the building is only comprised of construction materials. A building also contains valuable data about itself and see how to capture this data during the construction process so it can be leveraged throughout the life of the facility.
