Using Point Clouds and Virtual Reality for Hospitality Design
For today’s forward-looking architects and designers 3D imaging, virtual reality and point cloud technology is being seamlessly woven into the design process behind commercial architecture projects to deliver optimal and personalized customer experiences. This new generation of technologies is changing the way restaurants and hotels are being designed and built. This technology includes 3D scanning, point clouds, and virtual reality. These technologies enable architects and designers to: ● Create models faster ● Collaborate with colleagues online using only the most current data ● Streamline processes for improved efficiency ● Avoid overages and stay within the project scope ● Boost client satisfaction Specifically, the latest 3D imaging laser scanner provides architects and designers with a device they can carry in their hand to photograph and scan an entire room in three minutes. It creates a virtual space using point clouds, which are dimensionally accurate laser reproductions, which can help inform the building of a base model. It also speeds up the site-measuring process dramatically and allows architects and designers to focus more on designing and less on verifying existing conditions. As these experiences become standard across the hospitality industry, architects and designers need to quickly immerse themselves in the next generation of technologies that will enable them to meet client requirements and exceed guests’ expectations. By using innovative technologies to create environments that reflect the way people work and live – and anticipate their current and future needs – architects and designers can help the hospitality industry gain a competitive edge. Reaching New Heights: Mass Timber Innovations
Energy use and carbon emissions from the built environment have been gaining significant attention worldwide. The construction of buildings across the world is currently dominated by concrete, but production of cement, a primary ingredient in concrete, is a major source of pollution, producing a ton of CO2 for every ton of cement. One approach to reducing the environmental impacts of construction involves increasing the use of materials with lower environmental footprints, such as wood. The development of Engineered Wood Products (EWP), such as Cross-Laminated Timber. have increased the possibilities of building with wood, allowing wood building to reach new heights. During this presentation Dr. Laguarda-Mallo will present the most relevant innovations in sustainable mass timber construction. She will explore different materials, analyze the current state of the North American Mass Timber market and present the most cutting-edge timber national and international projects.
