Automating Drawing Documentation in Revit using Dynamo, Python and C#

1:30 PM - 1:45 PM
In this case study, we partnered up with a curtain wall manufacturer to develop automated processes for generating drawings from BIM models. We will explore a broad range of techniques used to automate drawing documentation by extracting the data stored in the Revit model. The data structure and Revit standards were instrumental to the success of our process. By enlisting Dynamo to create proof of concepts and then translating the resolved logic into a C# Addin, allowed for maximum flexibility and usability of the workflow automations: generating sheets, views, placing views on sheets, and annotating views with dimensions and tags. The lessons learned and logic identified can be extrapolated to other use cases beyond the requirements described in this study. We hope you join our exploration in drawing auto-documentation.

Proactive BIM Management - Dashboards for Days!

1:45 PM - 2:00 PM
Generating Revit models for design intent produces a great amount of data that can inform a more proactive, performance driven documentation process and open the door to affecting your firms bottom line. This Industry Talk will walk you through the steps to creating a proactive firm-wide BIM QC process using Dynamo in conjunction with Clarity SQL server. We'll cover how to use Power Bi to combine your BIM data with project and business data in dashboards to help your firm collaborate more efficiently.

The Where Factor - BIM-to-GIS and the Informed Environment

2:00 PM - 2:15 PM
The theme of this presentation is a discussion about how Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are finally becoming compatible and accessible to each other, In turn this opens dynamic new channels to inform and improve building project (both vertical and horizontal) design, construction and life-cycle management. The advent of a much more fully integrated BIM-to-GIS is largely due to the partnership between Esri and Autodesk that was announced in late 2017. Each company is the dominant world-wide market leader in their respective fields - Esri for GIS and Autodesk for AEC design technologies. With due respect, there are many other thought leading individuals and firms working on the BIM-to-GIS field as well, but the Esri - Autodesk Partnership opened the floodgates allowing much of the needed technological break throughs required to advance the field. This discussion will focus on BIM-to-GIS project scenarios and the lessons we learned from each. The first involves the development of an automated building permitting, code compliance and project geolocation system in conjunction with a major city. (We can't disclose the city at this time because of NDA considerations. We will be able to talk about the city at the time of the AECNext Conference in June however.) We will also discuss using GIS demographic, zoning and climate data to better inform site selection for a proposed building project. Last, we will discuss the use of indoor geolocation of assets and navigation for large facility operations projects. Our hope with this presentation is to build the knowledge base around the growing BIM-to-GIS field. We also hope to inspire both expanded discussions, the sharing of ideas and, most importantly the expanded use of the combination of these powerful technologies to create better designs and a more informed environment all around.
