Zero Energy: The New Normal

Presented By: New Buildings Institute

We will introduce zero net energy including definitions and provide an overview of the national ZNE market adoption and growth across all climate zones. Presentation of the advancement in existing codes and policies and number of ZNE projects will show that ZNE is becoming more common. The business case for ZNE buildings will be presented with aspects covering the local real estate and construction markets. We will provide a good basis of knowledge for zero energy building design, construction, and operation. We will highlight a path to ZE achievement that includes integration of the pilot program and share regional examples. Based on NBI’s extensive database of ZNE projects, the session will cover the strategies and technologies that are being used most widely in the pursuit of zero energy. The session will conclude with the connection between Zero Energy and Resiliency and how projects can pursue both goals with the same strategies and, perhaps more importantly, the same budget.
